The number of homes, farms and businesses without power following bad weather overnight has been reduced to 4,000.

This morning, nearly 10,000 ESB customers were without electricity, with the most affected areas in the south and east.

Around 500 customers were without power in Palmerstown in Dublin and Castlelyons in Co Cork.

ESB Networks crews are continuing to deal with the faults.

Last night, very bad weather conditions in Co Cork caused a number of incidents.

Gardaí dealt with a collision on the N25 westbound between Cobh Cross and the Little Island exit where there were reports of excess surface water along the route.

Emergency services also dealt with an incident on the Innishannon/Kinsale road (R605) around 2km outside Innishannon.

Diversions were in place on the South Link Road outbound just before the Boreenmanna exit after a fallen tree blocked the road.
